Lost River Camps

What is the difference between private summer camps and Girl Scout camps?

I'm applying to work at a camp this upcoming summer. I have narrowed the possible camps I'm interested in work in to two camps. One is a private camp and one is a Girl Scout camp. What are the main differences between private and Girl Scout camps? If you have been to either or both types of camp, what was it like? Which would you recommend? Also, if you have a camp that you really like, can you include a link so I can look at it.

  1. Girl Scout camp is run by Girl Scouts and can be really fun. I've never been to private camp, just Girl Scout camp.
  2. girl scout camp is just girls. private camp has both genders. i have been to both and i like the private one better cuz u can be flirty w/ sum guys. oh lala!!!
  3. I've worked at Camp Wapanacki for the last few years, and it's been fantastic! Sadly it's going out of business for 2010 due to old structures and lack of money. Working at this GS camp has been an amazing experience for me, and taught me how many girls need the influence and playfulness, help and dedication the staff at a GS camp provides. I've been a Girl Scout for 13 years and I can tell you it's a fantastic non-profit organization dedicated to improving self-esteem and life skills in girls that is well worth your time. From what I understand, private camps are usually more expensive and you do not get the same diversity of people as at a camp where lower-income families can also send their children.
