Lost River Camps

Is camping possible along the entire length of the Mississippi River?

I would love to do some canoeing at different segments...

  1. Except for the places where there is a road.
  2. NO it is not even i know that, i have never been to the USA & i know none of your laws but commen sence will tell you some land will be privetly owned some will be national/state parks with no camping im in aussie
  3. I kayaked it from Ohio to New Orleans and can tell you that camping is not impossible but pretty difficult. I did not research it well enough and thought that there would be campgrounds and parks. Not so and much land is posted and best not to fool around with the landowners. Getting food and water from local stores is not easy either. You need to study the maps and if you can drive the distances that you are going to paddle that would be the best research you can make. The time on the river is great though be ready to deal with the wake of the towboats. Weekends are tough because of the pleasure boaters, early mornings during the week are good times to make distances. Its hot man, hot during the summer so take sunscreen and protective clothing. I think there are websites for through paddling the M, check them out. Good luck, dude and be safe.
  4. NO, NO, NO.. you cannot camp on private lands, unless you get permission from each owner.. besides, are you nuts?.... besides, wouldn't a less developed river be better for the outdoor views, air and scenery?.. maybe the green river in wyoming/utah?..
