Lost River Camps

Where is a good place for a river/float/camping trip?

My friends and I would like to go on a camping trip this summer. We are picturing canoeing down a river and camping in a tent on the shore in like a forest I guess. We want the river to be very easy to navigate with no danger possible. We live in Kansas and don't want to drive more than 7 hours; we were thinking somewhere in Arkansas or South or North Dakota. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks

  1. You could try and get permits for the Mississippi River.
  2. I really recommend Boundary Waters it is in Minnesota try looking up info! You canoe around a ton of lakes and find camping spot which are easily assessable. The lakes are also easy to paddle across(this is a plus). I also think that this is a great way to spend quality time with your friends to get to know each other better.
  3. Its a shame you don't want to go very far because theSuwaneee RIver in georgia/florida sounds just right for ya. I went kayaking down that river... very flat water, very easy to navigate, BEAUTIFUL, they have camp areas and cabins that are all free, it winds thru scenic towns, has freakin MANATEES, its awesome! I cant wait to do it again. Google upSuwaneee river trips and see how much info you get. Its a lot!
  4. I believe you would love to float the beautiful "Current River" in southeast Missouri. Check out this outfitter in Van Buren, Missouri. Current River Outfitters P0 Box 99 • 100 Ash Street • Van Buren, MO 63965 573-323-4000 www.currentriveroutfitters.net • cro@currentriveroutfitters.net
